Cross Campus South Australia Contacts!!!
Related to country: Australia

Hey guys, as the first post on out new blog i thought it might help to put how you can get in contact with us!
We have a yahoo group which you can subscribe to, to get updates of what is happening in Adelaide and South Australia, and any trips that are being organised. To subscribe send an email with the word "Subscribe" in the subject to crosscampus_sa-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
To send messages to the whole group send them to crosscampus_sa@yahoogroups.com (this is also the email you would receive from).
The convener of the collective for 07-08 is Soph, and the convener for 08-09 is to be Danni, i will add other details as they get approved to be posted by the respective people.

Also we would like to inform you of what is happening in the next few weeks and months:
The Northern Territory Convergence- Stop the intervention! A group of 30 (and hopefully you too!) are going to Alice Springs during this uni holidays, to attend a 10 day program of education, about the affect of the Federal Government Intervention, possibly followed by protests or NVDA. The program is as follows:
Monday 29 September

Prescribed Area People’s Alliance (PAPA) meeting, 9am at Pioneer Football Shed
This is a meeting for people from prescribed areas to come together and discuss how the intervention is affecting them, what changes have occurred in communities, what they would rather see instead, and how to go about achieving those changes. The meeting will discuss what people want from the convergence, and from the future of the campaign to stop the intervention.

If people have arrived early in Alice Springs from interstate, there will be things to do to support the meeting, such as cooking/preparing food, running information stalls and setting up a media station to record participants stories during the meeting. There will also be last minute postering and publicity for the Sept 30 rally in town.

Rosters for these tasks will be at the camp site and we ask people to stop at the camp first so there is not an influx of people at the PAPA meeting.

Welcome
That afternoon/night, around 4 or 5 o’clock, there will be a welcome and dinner at Mt Nancy Town Camp, just off Stuart Hwy north of town, where people attending the convergence are invited to camp out. This will be a chance for local traditional owners and residents to welcome people to country, and for people coming to the convergence to get an idea of what the next few days will bring, and what organisation needs to happen to make the convergence possible.

Keep checking the website http://rollbacktheintervention.wordpress.com for more updates and directions to the camp.

Tuesday 30 September

Rally and March, 12pm, Courthouse Lawns
To coincide with the release of the Intervention review, there will be a big rally and march through town. In June, marking one year since the Intervention, 300 people braved freezing cold weather for the rally and we are expecting a much bigger turnout this time, especially with all of the interstate supporters!

Afternoon/evening
Later that day we will meet back at Mt Nancy to organise convoys and supplies for the listening tour. People will break into smaller groups to visit communities, and this evening is a chance for people to make sure they know where they are going, have sufficient food and supplies for the trip, know a little about what to expect when they arrive, and so on.

Wednesday 1 October

Listening tour
In the morning, people will travel to the community they are visiting. So far, Yuendumu and Utopia have invited people to their communities, and there will possibly be a trip to Tennant Creek and Ali Curung as well. There may be other people who offer their communities during the PAPA meeting. Once people arrive at communities, they will spend the afternoon listening and talking to people in communities, share dinner and films and then camp out overnight.

Thursday 2 October

Listening tour
The following morning, people will leave communities and travel back to a centralised location near Alice Springs (location TBC). Here there will be more opportunities to listen to stories shared by local community members, and also to report back stories and ideas that emerged from trips to communities. This is an opportunity to discuss where to go for the campaign from here – what happens after the convergence?

Friday 3 October

Back to town
Back in Alice Springs, some people may need to leave to travel home. Those who stay may want to participate in various actions around town.

Things we need…
To help us to make the convergence run smoothly, we are looking for:
- people to coordinate the running of the kitchen
- audio, photo and video recording equipment
- people dedicated to editing the audio and film footage so we can get the word out asap to supporters around the country and world
- digital projectors for film screenings at communities
- financial donations so the Alice working group can get a good camp set up for everyone and to ensure as many people from prescribed areas are able to attend the meeting and rally
- possibly use of interstate buses to pick people up from communities in the central region
- lots of banners, placards and energy for the rally

Please note: People traveling from interstate must be self sufficient with food, bedding and vehicles/petrol to travel to communities.

Any questions or suggestions please email rollbacktheintervention@gmail.com.

Some of you may have heard about The Asia Pacific Defense and Security Exhibition (APDSE), and its cancellation! This is exciting news for all those who were part of organising protests and Peace fairs in opposition to the trading of military equipment, especially when that money can be used on so much more positive things. There will still be a peace fair on the 9thof November in Elder Park. Watch this space for updates.

Rally for the Murray
Sunday September 28, 12 noon
Meet at Victoria Square/ Tarndanyangga
Obviously in protest to the appalling treatment of the Murray catchment/river.

In the last week of November (during the last week of exams for Flinders students) there will be mass protests in Tasmania, a second round of Gunns and Dozers. A lot of students from Adelaide are going to go to this, even if it is after their exams/the festivities. They need people over there all the time, so why not?!

These are just SOME of the things happening in adelaide this year, There will be more posts as i get the time and they come to my attention.

All the Best

Nice!
Cool site Joseph, you've done a really good job!

I would strongly encourage everyone to head up to the NT from the 29th Sept onwards. It is important that as many young (and old) Australians as possible can see for themselves the Australian Government's failure to recognise Indigenous rights and identity, in their own communities, by allowing the intervention to continue in this manner.

The Racial Discrimination Act needs to be reinstated - it was put in place originally for a reason...to help stop racial discrimination like this from happening.

Asides from that, it will be a really good learning experience to witness cultures that very few Australian's (or anyone) actually get to witness first hand.

Peace and love.
